Z-scan studies were carried out to measure the sign and magnitude of the optical nonlinearity of CdTe nanoparticles. The CdTe nanocrystallites have a radius of approximately 3.22 nm and interesting photophysical properties. By increasing Cd/Te molar ratio the emission wavelength in the photoluminescence shifted to higher energies. The effect of precursors molar ratio on the synthesis of these nanocrystalline samples was measured using UV-Visible absorption, photoluminescence and nonlinear optical analysis. CdTe nanocrystals were synthesized by wet chemical route using potassium tellurite and cadmium chloride as starting materials in the presence of mercaptoacetic acid (MAA) as capping agent at pH ≈ 11.2.
